music wednesday

Remember last week when I was all "I have to go to the dentist!"?

Yeah, not so much. My appointment isn't for another two weeks. You know that person who's always asking, "Has anyone seen my glasses?" and they're wearing them? On their FACE? That's me.

ANYWAY.

It's still raining here. My cat is molding. I've forgotten what the sun looks like. Fred's growing a beard and muttering to himself about procuring animals.

To distract myself, I've been listening to this band:

{An aside: a friend told me about Sound Opinions, which I never can listen to because I'm never near a radio when it's on, but then the big ol' lightbulb in my brain clicked on and I downloaded some podcasts, including one where they highlight bands from SXSW11. Said friend and I were in the car the other night talking about this very show and both admitted our raging obsession growing fondness for this band.}

monday pretties

I'll try to spend some time Monday morning to show you what I've been collecting over at Pinterest. More goodies await you there - go, quickly, and check it out.

I know it's nearly May, but we still need coats some days, and these caught my eye.

Garlands are all the rage, and I'm loving the sparkle of the one on the left. The one on the right has an Easter theme, but I'm thinking any shape would work.
{sources: loops: o chickadee || eggs: modern parents, messy kids }

I'm itching to do something to our walls, and I love this idea for our living room.

Taking a page from Cathy Zielske, I'm here to announce that today is my birthday. Today. April 24. Right now. Birthday time.

highs & lows

{Joining my SECOND linky party. This is a big deal for me, as I'm not a joiner.}
Jennifer at Life, Crafts, & Whatever has started a new party and I'm jumping in feet first. Thanks for hosting, Jennifer!
From last Sunday to this Saturday, we list our highs and lows for the week.
Highs
  • Having new friends over for yummy Indian food.
  • A birthday party for me and coworker at the office. With more yummy food.
  • Moving the blog over to new platform -- FINALLY.
  • Spending evenings on the couch with Fred watching 30 Rock.
  • Sneaking into Emma's room after she's asleep and kissing her too many times on the cheek. {I love that the kissing sometimes results in her sleepily smiling and wrapping her arms around my neck. And when I whisper that I love her, she whispers it back, never opening her eyes.}
  • Finishing the week with a Girls' Night In -- movie, wine, chocolate, and a surprise birthday cake for two of us.
Lows
  • Finding out that a friend is sick, very sick. The realization (again) that being a grown-up sucks.

i'm going to regret this

Earlier this week, on Katrina's {adorable} blog, she posted a short video of herself doing a dialect meme, and I thought, I'm totally going to do that.

So here it is. Forgive the lighting -- it's gray and rainy outside. And I just realized that my hair is totally sticking up in the back, so that's awesome.

The Meme:

{I'm from Arizona, and I currently live in the Midwest. My husband is from Massachusetts and has funny words for things. And he totally says things wrong, too.}

Say these words:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And answer these questions:
  • What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
  • What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
  • What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
  • What do you call gym shoes?
  • What do you say to address a group of people?
  • What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
  • What do you call your grandparents?
  • What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
  • What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
  • What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

welcome!

Here it is. Version 2 of Paper, Squared. I'm sure Version 3 is only a few months away.

Have fun. Poke around. Try not to break anything.

I'll be back tomorrow. With video.

music wednesday

I have to go to the dentist today, and then deliver materials for work -- hopefully dazzling all of the recipients with my sparkling teeth -- so this will be quick because I should be showering. And flossing.

Yesterday the weather was horrid. Gray, windy, cold. On my way home from work last night I could barely see the road in front of me through the rain. I never considered myself someone who was affected by the weather. Growing up in Arizona, there was no such thing as the winter blues. Imagine my surprise to discover how my mood shifts with the clouds.

I needed something yesterday afternoon to lift my spirits, and I didn't have time for staring at Ryan Gosling, so I turned to my music and played this sucker as loud as I could. And it worked. Turn it up -- it only works when the bass moves your hair.

it's tuesday. picture day.

Inspired by Jennifer of Life, Crafts, and Whatever, I'm using Tuesday as a day to show you the pictures I've taken throughout the past week.

I did a terrible job this week! I plugged in my phone expecting a glut of pictures, and there were three. Pathetic.

Wednesday. Morning hair. You're welcome.

Wednesday afternoon. Reading Sly the Sleuth on the drive home from school. (And I think you can see a peek of the White Sox park out the back window.)

Sunday we had friends over for lunch and I made this (ZOMG soooo good) and accomplished my finest onion dice to date.

Want to play? Load up pictures you took this week and link to your post in the comments!

monday pretties

I'll try to spend some time Monday morning to show you what I've been collecting over at Pinterest. More goodies await you there - go, quickly, and check it out.

I think this dress and these shoes would be the perfect work outfit.

{sources || dress: ModCloth || shoes: Ruche, and sadly not available any longer}

Our next house will have a dedicated library, with a comfy chair for reading. Over the chair I would hang this mobile, and keep all of my knickknacks in the card catalog.

{sources || mobile: Shophouse, via Making it Lovely || cabinet: Target. Yes, really.}

And of course, we all need a little cute.

4.12.2011

it's tuesday. let's look at some pictures.

In honor of Jennifer's weekly "What's On My Phone?" posts, I'm sharing the same with you. Er, the pictures on my phone. Not hers.

friday

On Friday, I took the train to meet Fred and friends for dinner. The waiter/bartender did not know how to make a sidecar, and I neglected to explain proportions, and somehow he confused brandy with whisky. It was potent. Also, it was not a sidecar.

sunday morning

Sunday was the warmest day we've had all year, and while Fred and Emma went to the park, I took my book and iced coffee to the lawn.

later sunday morning

Upon their return, Emma joined me but demanded shade. It was getting a little warm.

sunday afternoon

After lunch, Fred and Emma washed the car, which necessitated a wardrobe change and demonstration of strength.

later sunday afternoon

While the car was being washed, I took a picture of the umbrella in my hair (which looks precariously balanced), the remnants of our afternoon mai tais. (Emma also got an umbrella in her juice, because c'mon. EVERYONE deserves umbrellas in their drinks.)

monday morning

To herald spring's arrival, I decided to wear a skirt. It happens so rarely I felt I needed to document the occasion.

What pictures did you take this week?
